STORIES IN MOTION:
A STORYTELLING PERFORMANCE
(CEU ELIGIBLE)

DESCRIPTION:

This ASL Storytelling performance used visually rich narratives to highlight key features of American Sign Language, including classifiers, non-manual markers, fingerspelling, Visual Vernacular, and 3D use of space. Designed for learners at all levels, the performance strengthens receptive skills while modeling clear, accurate, and expressive ASL. Audience members observe how foundational language features work together to create engaging, meaningful stories and support effective ASL communication.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this performance, participants will identify key ASL features used in storytelling, including classifiers, non-manual markers, fingerspelling, and Visual Vernacular, and explain their role in conveying meaning. Participants will analyze visually rich ASL narratives by examining spatial use, movement, role shifting, and facial expression to determine how meaning is constructed across the story. Participants will extrapolate meaning from the performance by interpreting visual details, perspective, and sequencing in order to understand implied actions, relations, and narrative intent beyond explicitly signed information.
